The right screen size depends on three things: how high the picture can go, where the projector can sit, and how far you sit from the wall. An ultra-short-throw projector sits on your TV unit, within about 45 cm of the wall; a standard projector goes on the ceiling or on a shelf behind the sofa. The Projector Selector works out the largest picture each projector can make under your height limit, and whether your seat is in the comfortable zone for that size. We confirm the exact mount and tilt on WhatsApp.
01 / Height Screen height and placement
The selector starts with a 7 ft limit for the top of the picture and keeps the bottom at least 2 ft off the floor. On a TV unit, the picture starts above the unit; on the ceiling or a shelf, the top of the picture sits at your limit.
02 / Throw Throw distance
Throw distance is the gap between the lens and the screen. It equals the projector’s throw ratio multiplied by the picture width, so a longer throw ratio needs more distance for the same size. A 100-inch 16:9 picture is about 221 cm wide.
03 / Seating Viewing distance
Your seat is marked Recommended when the screen fills between about 28° and 40° of your view: roughly 8 ft 8 in to 13 ft 8 in from the wall for a 100-inch screen, and 10 ft 5 in to 16 ft 5 in for 120 inches. Closer shows red (too close); further shows amber (a bit far).
How do I know what size projector screen fits my room?
Set three things on the diagram: how high you want the picture to go (your limit), where the projector can sit (on your TV unit, on the ceiling or on a shelf behind the sofa), and how far your seat is from the wall. The selector shows the largest screen each projector can make under your limit, and whether that size suits where you sit.
What is throw distance?
Throw distance is the gap between the projector lens and the screen. It equals the projector’s throw ratio multiplied by the picture width, so the same screen size needs more distance on a longer-throw projector. A 100-inch 16:9 picture is about 221 cm wide. The selector uses each projector’s datasheet throw ratio.
How far should I sit from a projector screen?
The selector marks your seat Recommended when the screen fills about 28° to 40° of your view. For a 100-inch screen that is roughly 8 ft 8 in to 13 ft 8 in from the wall, and for a 120-inch screen roughly 10 ft 5 in to 16 ft 5 in. Closer than that shows as Too close (red), and further back as A bit far (amber).
What is the difference between a TV-unit projector and a ceiling projector?
An ultra-short-throw projector sits on your TV unit, within about 45 cm of the wall. A standard projector is mounted on the ceiling or on a shelf behind the sofa, further back in the room. The selector only shows projectors that suit the placement you choose.
How high should the projector screen be?
The selector starts with a 7 ft limit for the top of the picture and keeps the bottom of the picture at least 2 ft off the floor. You can drag the limit or tap it to type an exact value; if the picture would go above your limit, the selector warns you.
Does room light change which projector I need?
Yes. Choose Dark, Some daylight or Bright at the top of the tool, and each projector card says whether it is bright enough for that room or may need a darker room, based on its rated brightness in lumens.
Why doesn’t the Projector Selector show prices?
Pricing depends on the projector, the screen and the installation, so we share it on WhatsApp. Tap “Send my room details on WhatsApp” and your room settings go with your message.
Where do you deliver and install projectors?
Delivery and installation cover Karnataka and Hyderabad. We confirm the exact mount and tilt for your room on WhatsApp.
