TL;DR. Motorised curtain installation across Karnataka and Hyderabad — Wi-Fi, Zigbee, or KNX motors depending on your home. Retrofit onto a suitable existing rod, or replace with a clean motorised track. A single track installs in 2-3 hours; a full 3BHK in a day. Voice and app control, scene integration if you have a smart home. 1-year warranty. We install the motor and track; you handle fabric, or we coordinate it.

Motorised curtains are one of the most satisfying pieces of home automation — daily-use convenience that everyone in the home actually notices. Homezee installs them as standalone projects and as part of larger smart home systems, across Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and KNX depending on what the rest of your home runs on.

What’s involved

A motorised curtain install is a motor, a track (or a retrofit motor on your existing rod), and the control setup — app, voice, and scene integration. The motor moves the curtain along the track; you control it from your phone, by voice, on a schedule, or as part of a scene. We measure the track length and assess the existing setup during the site visit, because the right approach depends a lot on what’s already on your wall.

Wi-Fi versus Zigbee versus KNX curtain motors

Wi-Fi curtain motors connect directly to your home Wi-Fi and the brand’s app, work with Alexa and Google Home, and need no hub. The trade-off: each motor is one more device on your Wi-Fi, which strains consumer routers once you have several curtains plus everything else smart in the home.

Zigbee curtain motors connect to a Zigbee hub — which you likely already have if you’re doing smart home — don’t load your Wi-Fi, and are more reliable in homes with many devices. The best fit when curtains are part of a broader smart home rather than standalone.

KNX or wired curtain motors are for new construction or full renovation where automation runs on a wired bus. Highest reliability, longest life, and they integrate into full scene control — one button does “movie mode” and the curtains are part of it.

Our practical rule: Wi-Fi for one to three curtains in an otherwise simple setup, Zigbee for whole-home smart installs, KNX for new construction or premium projects.

Retrofit existing rods, or replace with track

Sometimes a retrofit motor works on your existing rod — if the rod is straight, robust, and the fabric is light to medium weight, a clip-on motor moves the carrier along it. Lower cost, faster, but the motor is visible on one end and the aesthetic doesn’t always match.

More often we recommend replacing the rod with a proper motorised track — a low-profile aluminium track with an internal motor, reusing your existing curtains if they’re compatible. Cleaner look, smoother operation, longer warranty.

Honest note: many “retrofit my existing rod” requests turn out not to be practical once we see the actual rod at the site visit — Indian apartment curtain rods are often non-standard sizes or overloaded with heavy fabric. We tell you which scenario applies after we’ve seen it, not before.

Fabric — your tailor or ours

We install the motor and track. We don’t supply curtain fabric — most customers source it through their own tailor, which is usually cheaper and gives you more choice, and we coordinate timing so the fabric is ready when we install. If you’d rather we handle fabric procurement too, we can, but sourcing it yourself is the cost-effective path.

Power requirements — plan ahead

Curtain motors need power. Most installations need either a nearby plug point — we use an existing one or coordinate with your electrician to add one — or a hidden internal battery with charging access. We flag the power requirement during the site visit specifically so there are no surprises on installation day.

Installation time

A single track installs in 2-3 hours including motor mounting, app pairing, and the customer walkthrough. A full 3BHK with five to seven curtains across rooms usually completes in a single day. When curtains are part of a larger smart home install, we fold them into the broader installation rather than scheduling a separate visit.

Brands we install

We install three brands across the premium and value tiers:

Somfy — the global benchmark in motorised window coverings, with a track record across residential and commercial projects worldwide. The default choice when the customer wants the highest reliability and the widest range of motor types and track systems.

Hunter Douglas — premium architectural window coverings with integrated motorised systems. A strong choice for custom-designed rooms where the track is part of the interior finish rather than just a functional add-on.

Dooya — reliable, well-made, strong value. The practical choice that covers the majority of Bangalore installs cleanly, without the premium pricing of Somfy or Hunter Douglas.

We recommend the right brand for your project at the site visit — based on your window dimensions, fabric weight, integration requirements, and budget. Not the highest margin.

We don’t install no-name imported budget motors. They fail within 6-12 months, and the cost of replacing one — call-back visit, dismantle, reinstall — is more than the saving on the cheaper unit. We learned this on early installs and stopped quoting those brands.

Pricing

Motorised curtain pricing depends on track length, fabric weight, motor type, and whether you’re retrofitting or installing fresh track. A single light-to-medium-fabric track is a modest per-window cost; heavy blackout curtains, long spans, or curved tracks cost more because the motor torque and rail engineering go up. Exact pricing comes from the site visit once we’ve measured and assessed the existing setup.

Warranty

Every installation comes with a 1-year comprehensive full-system warranty covering hardware, wiring and programming, serviced by our in-house team. If a motor fails within warranty, we replace it free.

Common questions

Straight answers from our FAQ — grounded in how we actually install and quote this service in Bangalore.

How much do motorised curtains cost in Bangalore?

Motorised curtain pricing depends on track length, fabric weight, motor type, and whether you’re retrofitting an existing rod or installing fresh tracks. Approximate ranges:

  • Single track, light-to-medium fabric, 6-8 feet width: approximately ₹25,000 per track (longer tracks, 6m–8m, range ₹30,000–₹36,000), motor and rail included
  • Heavy blackout curtains, longer spans, or curved tracks: higher because the motor torque rating goes up and the rail engineering is more complex
  • Full-room sheer + blackout dual track: roughly double a single-track install per window

A typical 3BHK Bangalore apartment with motorised curtains in master bedroom, living room, and one additional bedroom runs ₹50,000 – ₹65,000 all-in (Dalton motors + Stoic Zigbee curtain controllers). The biggest cost variable is fabric — we install the motor and track; you can either source fabric separately from your tailor or have us coordinate.

Do motorised curtains need a separate hub or app?

Depends on the brand and protocol. Three common configurations:

Wi-Fi curtain motors connect directly to your home Wi-Fi, controlled via the brand’s mobile app, work with Alexa and Google Home for voice control. No hub needed for basic use. Trade-off: each motor adds one more Wi-Fi device, which strains consumer routers when you have 4-6 curtains plus everything else smart in the home.

Zigbee curtain motors connect to a Zigbee hub (which you likely already have if you’re doing smart home), don’t add load to Wi-Fi, more reliable in homes with many smart devices. Voice control works via the hub. Best fit if curtains are part of a broader smart home install rather than standalone.

KNX or wired curtain motors — for new construction or full renovation where automation runs on a wired bus. Highest reliability, longest lifespan, no app failures, integrates with full home scene control (one button does “movie mode” = curtains close, lights dim, AC adjusts). Highest upfront cost.

Our practical rule: Wi-Fi for 1-3 curtains in an otherwise simple setup. Zigbee for whole-home smart installs. KNX for new construction or premium projects where curtains are part of an integrated scene system.

Can motorised curtains work with my existing rods and curtains?

Sometimes, but usually we recommend replacing the rod/track at the same time. Three scenarios:

Existing standard rod, retrofit motor: possible if the rod is straight, robust, and the fabric is light-to-medium weight. We add a clip-on motor that moves the carrier along the existing rod. Lower cost, faster install, but the visual aesthetic doesn’t always match. Best for budget retrofits.

Replace rod with motorised track: the cleaner option. New low-profile aluminium track with internal motor, fabric reuses your existing curtains if compatible. Better aesthetic, smoother operation, longer warranty. We recommend this in most cases.

Full new install (motor + track + new fabric): for new homes or major renovations. Best aesthetic match, color-coordinated tracks, optimized weight class for the motor.

Honest note: many “retrofit my existing rod” requests end up not being practical once we see the actual rod at the site visit — Indian apartment curtain rods are often non-standard sizes or fabric-overloaded. We tell you honestly at the site visit which scenario applies.

How long do motorised curtains take to install?

A single track typically installs in 2-3 hours including motor mounting, Wi-Fi or Zigbee pairing, app setup, and customer walkthrough. A 3BHK full curtain install (5-7 curtains across rooms) usually completes in a single day.

If we’re installing curtains alongside other smart home work — automation, switches, lighting — the curtain install is folded into the broader installation day rather than scheduled separately.

One thing to plan ahead: curtain motors need power. Most installations require either a nearby plug point (we use the existing one or coordinate with your electrician to add one) or a hidden internal battery with charging access. We flag this requirement during the site visit so there are no surprises on install day.

What brands of motorised curtains does Homezee install?

We install Dalton motors, paired with Stoic Zigbee curtain controllers for app and voice control integration.

We do not install no-name imported budget motors that fail within 6-12 months. The cost of replacing a failed motor (call-back, dismantle, reinstall) is more than the savings on the cheaper motor — we’ve learned this from early installs and stopped quoting those brands.

Do you offer EMI?

Yes, on credit cards. When you pay through our Razorpay checkout you can choose credit card EMI over 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months. It is available on cards from ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, RBL Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered, Yes Bank, BOBCARD, Federal Bank, IDFC First Bank and AU Small Finance Bank, and more banks may be added. The interest is set by your bank and rates vary by bank, so this is not no-cost EMI. EMI is subject to your bank’s approval. HDFC Bank and SBI cards, debit card EMI and cardless EMI are not currently available.

What we don't do

We don't install no-name imported budget motors that fail within 6-12 months — replacing a failed motor costs more than the saving on the cheap one. We don't supply curtain fabric; you source it through your tailor (usually cheaper) or we coordinate, but the motor and track is our scope.
