Which speaker layout suits your room?

A home theatre layout is written as three numbers, such as 5.1.2: five main speakers, one subwoofer and two height speakers. 5.1 is classic surround, 5.1.2 adds a pair of Dolby Atmos height speakers, and 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 add wider surrounds with two or four height speakers. Which layout fits depends on the room size, ceiling and seating, and height speakers have to be wired before the ceiling closes.

7.1.2 Atmos3412

A second subwoofer can be added for dedicated theatres, open halls and the 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 layouts. The projector is a separate choice: see what screen size fits on the Projector Selector.

Home theatre questions

What do 5.1, 5.1.2, 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 mean?

The first number is the main ear-level speakers, the second is the subwoofer, and the third is height speakers for Dolby Atmos. So 5.1.2 is five main speakers, one subwoofer and two height speakers, and 7.1.4 is seven main speakers, one subwoofer and four height speakers.

Which speaker layout should I choose?

It depends on the room size, ceiling and seating. 5.1 is classic surround, 5.1.2 adds a pair of Dolby Atmos height speakers, and 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 add wider surrounds with two or four height speakers. Height speaker positions have to be wired before the ceiling closes, so decide the layout before plastering if you are building or renovating.

Are the prices in the Home Theatre Suggester final?

No. They are indicative prices from the Homezee catalogue. Your exact quotation follows the ₹3,000 site visit, and you get one written quote for the final design and scope before any work starts.

Can I add a second subwoofer?

Yes. For dedicated theatres, open halls and the 7.1.2 and 7.1.4 layouts, tick “Add a second subwoofer” under the sound layout and we include it in your quotation.

What does the ₹3,000 home theatre site visit include?

An in-person room assessment: measurements, light conditions, acoustics, and where the screen, speakers and seating can go. The fee is adjusted against your final invoice if you go ahead.

Should I get a projector or a TV?

A projector suits a dedicated room where you can control the light, because it gives the largest picture. A large display is brighter and simpler, so it usually suits a living room with daylight. The Projector Selector shows what screen size fits your room and where the projector goes.
